Known as the land of a thousand monasteries, Armenia's history is well preserved throughout the countryside in the small towns, villages, and churches nestled in the mountainous regions outside of Yerevan, while in the modern capital city you can find a church dating from 1693 sharing a street corner with newly constructed buildings.
